Three Useful Sayings

userpic=fountain-penToday, I would like to impart to you three useful sayings. Put this with your other groupa-threes, such as the three things that constitute a reference monitor, or the three things you should always remember. They will serve you well.

  1. You Can Learn Something from Everyone. Someone said this at a MoTAS meeting, and it changes your view of things. Everyone you meet, everyone you interact with is an opportunity to learn if you take the time. Yes, even those with whom you disagree still know things that you don’t. Your challenge is to find those things.
  2. Force yourself to work out for just five minutes everyday. This came from a Buzzfeed article. The notion is that no matter how bad you feel, promise yourself to go to the gym, but you only have to work out for five minutes. If you are really miserable after those five minutes, let yourself leave. Usually, once you start moving, you’ll want to keep moving.
  3. I Can Deal with the Shit; It’s the Farts That Wear Me Down. This is a quote from Wm. Mulholland talking about his battles with the press over and after the aquaduct. I know this well — it is all the little things — the drip from the toilet, the hassles with Metro, the battle for the last little bit of charge number — that exhaust you during the day. Those big problems — they are easy to deal with.
