As I write this, I’m on the eve of driving my daughter up to UC Berkeley to start her college years. So here are a few college related stories:
- Packing. Part of going off to school is packing stuff for your dorm room. CNN has an nice article on what to take.. and what not to take (the comments are also fun). It actually has some good advice… as well as introducing the game of Garbage Jenga: “The game is to stack discarded fast food bags and containers as high as they’ll go until the whole structure crashes down to the roaches. The one who tipped it has to clean it up and take it out.”
- Paying. The California Assembly is on the verge of creating another funding break for middle-class folks to pay for UC/CSU. Of course, their definition of middle class doesn’t work to well for those in major metropolitan areas.
- Plugging In. An interesting article from USA Today on how some schools are requiring e-Books for classes. Supposedly Berkeley is one of them. However, eBooks aren’t that much cheaper, and some people just prefer the old fashioned books.
