It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means. Time for some random lunchtime news chum links, for your hump-day enjoyment:
- An Un COMMON Man. I note the passing of Daniel D. McCracken, author of a number of books on FORTRAN and COBOL.
- Relish the Thought. Sometimes, the puns just write themselves, such as in this story about a judge attempting to decide between Ball-Park Franks and Oscar Meyer as to which is America’s Favorite Hot Dog.
- Put Another Candle. As you know, I trot out old Sheriff John (who was sponsored by Farmer John hot dogs) to sing birthday greetings. Well, there are a bunch of people who don’t want them. Let me know if you’re one of them.
- Getting History Right. In the lobby of the LA Times building, they have a mini-museum of print. Only one problem. They’ve got things labelled wrong.
- Beauty in Los Angeles. We Angelenos love our cars. So what is more appropriate than an article on the five most beautiful parking garages in Southern California.
- Doing Good. Lastly, a nice human-interest piece about a Dairy Queen operating in Reading PA who is loved by the community.
