Friday News Chum

Friday. Lunchtime. By now you know what that means. Time to clean out the links and make some news chum stew:

  • Inked? Irked? The Washington Post had an article about how tattooing has outgrown its image to become mainstream. But has it? I know I certainly have no desire to get a tattoo, but I have no problem if other adults get them. Yet I also find (again, personal opinion) that they don’t seem to fit in most professional settings. But that’s just me. I’m curious what your attitude towards tattoos is? Does it vary based by age (I’m 51) or upbringing (no one I grew up with had them)? Do you have any tattoos?
  • Dust. The NY Times has an interesting article on dust: where it comes from, how much is generated, how to avoid it, how to clean it. Giving that dusting is one of those endless battles, I found it fascinating.
  • Dolls. Barbie’s former beau, Ken, is making a comeback. That explains the billboards.
  • California Schools. For all the bad you hear about the California school system, when it comes to AP exams, California is near the top. I know this well. My daughter is doing AP English Language, AP US History, AP Chemistry, and AP Art History this year, and is planning on AP Environmental Science, AP European History, AP English Literature, AP US Government (plus taking the test for AP Comparative Government) next year.
