Today, I took a vacation day. I had originally planned to work at home so that I wouldn’t have to rush for early Kol Nidre services tonight, but I got caught up on my reviewing, and so… vacation day it was. Furthermore, this is a really odd vacation day in that I haven’t really planned to do anything.
So what have I done?
Well, I got up, rode my new bike 7 miles down to Ventura Blvd, and hit my workout/PT facility. Did 30 minutes on the treadmill (15% incline; ~3.8mph), and another 20 minutes on the recumbant, and then my back stretching exercises. Rode across Ventura Blvd to Reseda, stopped at Office Depot for some pocket protectors (I carry a lot of fountain pens… deal!), and then up Reseda to Reseda Bicycles, where I had them do the initial adjustments on the bike and got a new seat.
I should mention that the bike is riding like a dream: much easier, and I’m finding I’m using the gears. However, the seat (which was foam with few springs) was hard on the tush, so I replaced it with a wider gel seat with some good springs. The seat seems to creak occasionally, but is a lot more comfortable.
I then continued up Reseda to Parthenia, across Parthenia to Tampa, up Tampa to Nordhoff, and from there back home. About 17 miles roundrip. So far, I’ve put about 70 miles on the new bike. Got home. Had a big salad for lunch. I’m now figuring out what I want to do next.
This thing called “relaxing”… it’s new to me. I’m sure I can get used to it. It’s like exercise. I used to never exercise, although I claimed I walked. Nowadays, I’m exercising and eating right… and feeling much better (modulo the occasional light migraine). If I compare where I was 6 months ago, which is about when I was in the hospital: I’ve gone from being 222 lbs with a blood pressure of mumble over 110, to being around 192 lbs with a BP of 118 over 73. I’m probably in the best shape I’ve been in at least 15 years.
So, I think I’ll figure out something to do the rest of the day. Or, perhaps, I’ll figure out something to not do.
