I know, everyone and their brother… and sister… are chiming in on the health care debate. I wanted to point out an interesting article I read during my lunchtime reading related to the debate in the LA Times: Healthcare Insurers Get Upper Hand. Basically, the article points out who is really behind the opposition to a government option: the healthcare insurance industry. If the plan mandates that everyone have healthcare insurance and the only options are private insurers, who stands to get all that premium money, ration the health care, and make all the profits. The private insurers. They are even willing to forgo all the pre-existing condition stuff to have the government funnel money to them in the form of subsidized premiums.
Oh, as as for the government being involved in healthcare being a problem: they are already involved. Medicare. I have heard nothing about the government option being the only option… and if it were, you would hear even a greater outcry from the private insurance industry. The situation will be analagous to the mandated auto insurance in some states: insurance companies make out because everyone has to have insurance.
