Vacation Pictures, With Commentary

As promised, here are some vacation pictures, with some commentary.*

This is a picture of the three of us, taken in the San Gregorio General Store. I’m blaming the belly on my posture… yeh, that’s the ticket. This is a really neat general store near where honeywoney (Anneliese) lives, that has almost everything under the sun. I don’t recall seeing the kitchen sink, although we found that in a thrift store in Clovis.

This is a representative picture of jellyfish that we took at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Both Erin and I took a bunch of these pictures, and we plan to mount the pictures and make a display wall with them, which will go very nice with some other sea related pictures we have.

This is a picture I took in the Haight. I particularly liked the effect of the shoes hanging from the street name.

Now, what is wrong with this sign? No, it’s not the prices. Those who know the history of gas stations know that Chevron used to be Standard Oil of California, just as Mobil used to be Standard of New York (Socony Mobil), Pennzoil was Standard of Pennsylvania, Amoco was Standard of Indiana, and so on. Each of these “Standards” wants to preserve the right to use the Standard name in their territory, and so there is always at least one station still signed as “Standard”. On Van Ness in San Francisco, I found Chevron’s franchise preserver.

Here is my beautiful daughter, along with ellipticcurve’s beautiful niece. We had a delightful afternoon visiting with Dennis and the kids, and I thank him for taking the time.

Here’s a picture of our friend AJ, his lovely wife Michelle, and his dog Ginger. AJ and Michelle were our gracious hosts when we went to the aquarium, and provided us with the opportunity to see Groovelily. Alas, I didn’t get the opportunity to get pictures of the other folks were were able to see on the trip: lrc, groblek, whalejudge, klellingson, and my cousins (well, I do have pictures of my cousin crash_the_dog, but he asked me not to post them).

This is a picture of the entry hall of the Cornell Hotel de France, where we stayed in San Francisco. It is on Nob Hill, next to a male adult theatre, but that’s just the nature of the city. This was a personally renovated hotel, which each floor devoted to a particular artist or person (the entry floor is Jeanne d’Arc, and the 4th floor, where we were, was Chagall).

Lastly, here’s a picture of my beautiful wife. I just love it when she smiles.

* I’m still not used to uploading pictures to Facebook, so they are over on LJ’s scrapbook, which is easy to update with Semagic. Does anyone know if Semagic can upload pictures to Facebook?
