Smile. It’s New Years Eve, Chum

Some final news chum for the year:

  • From the “Nipplegate, Part II” Department: Remember back in 2006 when Nipplegate erupted on LJ? All the fuss because some default icons showed (horrors) nipples? Well, guess what. It’s back… this time, on Facebook. Yes, friends, we have Facebook in hot water for removing pictures with visible nipples. Already we’re seeing protests over at FB headquarters. But Facebook shouldn’t worry. After all, russian overlords can buy them out too.
  • From the “A New Years Tradition” Department: I probably reported this earlier, but I for one am glad that KTLA brought back Stephanie Edwards to co-host the Rose Parade. She makes the parade worth watching, as opposed to the cookie cutter newsreaders they raise today. I know what I’m doing tomorrow morning… supporting Stephanie by supporting the ratings.
  • From the “Say it ain’t so, Spongebob” Department: Viacom may pull its programming from Time Warner Cable if a deal isn’t reached by midnight. That means no Nick. No MTV. No Comedy Central. No Spike. No TV Land. No BET. But who watches cable TV anyway, these days. Hulu-oose, Time Warner.
  • From the “The Check Is In The Mail” Department: When you file your California Tax Return, be ready to wait for that refund. The state may be issuing IOUs instead of checks. This budget stalemate isn’t good folks. I wonder who’ll get the blame when all is said and done: the governator, or the legislature. However, one data point is that “Terminator” has gone into the Library of Congress archive.

I will be glad to see 2008 go. When I go to the New York Times and see the headline “In 2008, 6 Years of Market Gains are Lost”… it’s just not that great of a year. We’ve had significant deaths, we’ve seen significant loss in value in our houses and our retirement funds. What we need now is hope. I wonder where we can find it?
