Day Four at the Conference + A Taste of Rio

Today was the fourth day of the conference, the third and last day of the technical program. The day started out with an excellent classic paper session, where Jeremy Epstein revisited Trusted X, and Peter Neumann looked back at the years of Risks Digest. There was also an excellent session on C&A, where I think I made some good contacts for work. But again, dinner was the highlight, but not for my wallet.

Tonight we went to Porcao Churrascaria, one of the top 10 restaurants in Miami. For those not familiar with churrascarias, they are Brazilian steakhouses. These are restaurants wait the waiters keep coming around with skewers of meat (you name it: flank steak, garlic steak, filet mignon, beef ribs, lamb, chicken, sausage, pork tenderloan, beef loin). It comes, and comes, and comes, and comes until you scream stop! There is also cheese bread (chebe), rice, sushi, soup, fried bananas, salads. Yum. However, it was pricey. After we divided up the check, it was $60 per person. Ouch!

Tonight is packing. Tomorrow I run the tutorial program, and then get on an airplane and fly back to Los Angeles. I think I’ll be glad to be home; I’m certainly looking forward to it.
