It’s been busy the last day or two, so let me through out a quick lunchtime post before my next meeting, and I’ll get something more out this evening. Today’s lunchtime post all has to do with history:
- Baseball Lost in AZ. A fascinating article from the OC Register on the history of Casa Grande, which used to be the Giants Winter Home. The centerpiece was a hotel that was a baseball fan’s dream. The swimming pool was shaped like a bat, next to a whirlpool shaped like a ball. The parking lot was laid out like a mitt, while the hotel tower itself mimicked the architecture of a stadium with a curved face and exterior staircases. Atop it all was a concrete lip meant to look like the bill of a baseball cap. Cool.
- Museum of the San Fernando Valley. Catch it while you can… the Museum of the SFV has opened up a temporary display outpost at Westfield Fashion Square. I monitor the museum’s RSS feed, and if the physical presence is half as good, this should be fascinating.
- Nobody know the words to Bonanza! The artist who created the map that burns at the opening of every episode of Bonanza has died. Evidently, the original map is on display at the Autry Museum, together with other painters’ interpretations of the West in the Autry’s current “Masters of the American West” exhibition.
