It’s Friday at lunch, and you know what that means: time to clear out the links to give you something to chew on…
- Crowning the Past. A couple of automobile related items. First, Ford has stopped making the iconic Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, but that doesn’t make them any less popular. Entire groups and clubs have formed to celebrate the car whose silhouette inspires fear. Secondly, here’s an interesting piece on San Francisco’s Auto Row… with lots of before and after pictures. It makes me think of the flower dealer next to the Pasadena Playhouse, which is housed in a former Cadillac shop.
- News for the Jews. Two items of interest from the Jewish Journal. The first is political: we’re in a redrawn congressional district where there is a battle royale going on between Howard Berman and Brad Sherman. Brad Sherman just released a political mailer showing his family at a local playground… but photoshopped out his mother for the non-Jewish recipients. The other article is culinary: due to a change in the packaging equipment (not ingredients), TJ’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips are moving from K-Pareve to K-Dairy, and this has kosher consumers up in arms.
- In One End and Out The Other. Two somewhat food related items. Carl’s Jr (who is about to do an IPO) has started testing a new product: an Ice Cream Burger consisting of chocolate ice cream between two sugar cookies, with red, yellow, and green frosting to simulate condiments. On the other end of things, there may soon be a laxative free colonoscopy.
- What’s In a Word? Many years ago, I learned that the words we use can slant our views: contrast “terrorist” vs. “freedom fighter”. Here’s another example. News has come out that more non-white babies are being born than white babies. Some, I’m sure, are finding a way to take advantage of this. My question is this: so why are we still referring to the non-white babies as “minorities”? Here’s another example: Google’s “customer service”.
- And Lastly… an interesting story out of St. Louis, where a stack of cash was found inside a box of Christmas donations that had been donated to the Goodwill store on Baptist Church Road. In fact, $14,505! So far, 15 people have claimed they left it.
