Just a few little things that have caught my eye in the last day or so:
- Turning a Page. The House of Representatives is ending their page program. So there will be no more high school students running errands for congresscritters, no potential for abuse, and more more $5 million/year cost. What killed it? Thanks to electronics, you no longer need a person to run a message.
- Digging a Hole. One of the pirate ships of the legendary Captain Morgan (who later went on to invent a type of spiced rum) has been found near Panama. The archeological expedition was funded by Captain Morgan Run, after the original funding ran out.
- Going to the Dogs. The LA Times has a interesting correction on a article about a Pet Cemetary. It seems that Skippy never played Lassie. Actually, the underlying story about Skippy is interesting. Skippy was the first recipient of the Lassie Gold Award, received posthumousl. Skippy was a member of the World War II Army K-9 Corps. He was volunteered for duty by his owner in 1943 and later saved his handler on Guadalcanal. The dog later died of his battle wounds. He also received the Purple Heart.
