A few articles related to bugs in the system, either literal or figurative ones…
- From the “Ongoing Battle” Department: I’ve written in the past about our ongoing battle with meal moths. Yesterday, I discovered in the LA Times an interesting article about dealing with moths: both meal moths and clothes moths. In particular, it had a suggestion I hadn’t seen before: “A few bay leaves in flour, pasta and grains containers might help (and can’t hurt).” Has anyone else heard of this?
- From the “Misguided Priorities” Department: Two articles I’ve seen during lunchtime reading make me question discipline in our schools. The first is an article from CNN about misguided zero-tolerance rules: in particular, a 12-yo who wrote a love note on a desk getting hauled out in handcuffs by the police. In my day, we just had to go through and clean the desks. Then again, schools don’t react when they should. An article in today’s GigaGranadaHills blog highlights a prime example: for all the furor about the “Compton” party at UCSD, there is no furor about a sexist Facebook group created by Granada Hills High students.
