By now, you’ve probably realized I love history and historical oddities. Here are a few historical items saved during lunchtime reading:
- History Every Day. You may not realize it, but you’re exposed to historical items every day on your computer. Don’t believe me? Look closely at the various icons you see. Most are for things that most people no longer use. For example, you’ll see a floppy disk icon in Acrobat to give you an option to save to disk–but who uses floppy disks anymore?
- Old Things Still Around. No, I’m not talking about me. Rather, I’m talking about old computer equipment or operating systems that should be long gone, but for some reason are still in use today. For example, there’s one company that is still using plugboard equipment.
- It’s Still Burning. The recent renovations at Clifton’s Cafeteria uncovered a neon light that has been burning behind a wall for about 70 years!
